Overview
The City of Modesto’s Safe Streets for All Program (Modesto SS4A) is developing a holistic, well-defined strategy to mitigate roadway fatalities and serious injuries in partnership with the community and stakeholder groups. To achieve this, community input gathered across Modesto will be combined with stakeholder feedback, collision safety data, and expert opinion to identify the community’s most pressing safety needs and identify targeted interventions, with a focus on protecting Modesto’s most vulnerable road users. Additionally, the Modesto SS4A Program will include a Safety Education Campaign Pilot to build awareness and help promote positive behavioral change (learn more in the Safety Education Campaign Pilot section below).
Ultimately, the Modesto SS4A Program will enable transformative change by providing a roadmap to implement recommended safety improvements, while promoting public awareness and qualifying the City to pursue millions in dedicated federal grant funding. The Modesto SS4A Task Force includes Modesto Mayor Zwahlen, Council Member Jeremiah Williams, Modesto Police Department, participants from the school districts, and other community leaders committed to Safe Streets in Modesto. Transformative road safety is a partnership between residents, community organizers, and local government. Virtual Workshop #1
Safety Education Campaign Pilot
Data shows that too many people walking and biking are victims of crashes and near misses in Modesto. To help address key factors that lead to pedestrian- and bicyclist-involved crashes, we are working on developing a pilot Traffic Safety Campaign.
